Number Day 2022

On Thursday the 17th February, the children at HPA took part in Number Day and this year’s theme was ‘Numbers are Everywhere!’ Children wore clothing with numbers upon it! We had some very creative outfits. During the day, children took part in a range of number related activities including number searches, orienteering, tagtiv8, Play your cards right, times tables challenges, creating number crowns and some classes played board games whilst others designed their own board games.
Children were asked to make a donation of £1, and the money raised has been split between the NSPCC and purchasing new maths books for our school library.
Reception exploring numbers to 10
The children in Reception used the story: Ten Little Dinosaurs’ to explore a range of imaginative and creative number activities during Number Day. They enjoyed finding, ordering and writing numbers to 10 and used ten frames to count/collect magnetic items in investigations. They also explored ordinal and positional language.
Year 1 using a book as a hook!
The children in Year 1 used the story: Have you seen my Dragon? as a hook for their Maths activities in Year 1. It was a great way to explore numbers to 20. The children went on a dragon hunt finding numbers and cracking the secret codes (numbers as words). They played lots of games investigating odd and even numbers, number bonds to 20 using playing cards, dominoes, ten frame buses, numicon and much more.
Year 2 on a scavenger hunt!
In Year 2 they took their leaning outside and had a number scavenger hunt using the TAGTIV8 resources.
Year 4 became board game designers!
In Year 4 the children designed their own board games based around maths. ‘Mad about Maths’ and ‘Maze of Maths’ were just some of their amazing designs!  They also took their leaning outside doing maths orienteering.
Year 5 were definitely up for a challenge!
Year 5 showed great perseverance to complete the ultimate times tables challenge!
Year 6 active maths!
Year 6 took part in some fun active maths!

Early Years in action!

The children in Nursery used the story: Pete the Cat and his four groovy buttons’ as a hook for their number activities during Number Day. They focused on counting, recognising and ordering numbers to 4 using different visual representations. They looked at subtracting 1 as Pete the Cat lost each button. The children enjoyed going on a number hunt, making number crowns in provision and adding buttons to Pete the Cat, amongst many more mark making activities.

Getting active in Year 1 and taking their learning outdoors!

The Year 1 children enjoyed using TAGTIV8 to explore odd and even numbers. They played fun games like ‘walk the dog’ to introduce their number dog to each other and talk about what kind of number it was. They hopped over odd numbers and jumped over even numbers on a number hunt. Finally, they sorted odd and even numbers in teams. It was a fun and active approach to learning and they loved it!
