Year 5 Performing Arts Day at Horbury Academy

The children in Year 5 took part in a Primary Pyramid Performing Arts Day on Wednesday 6th July.
During the day, the children took part in a range of workshops including learning the Haka, Indian tiger drama, Samba and African drumming.
The children also enjoyed learning a melody of songs and performing these with Makaton.

Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee

We celebrated the Platinum Jubilee with a range of activities and events including a parade and singing assembly in the school hall.  We sang ‘The National Anthem,’ ‘Wavin Flag’ and ‘We are having a street party.’

Young Voices 2022

Mrs Mower and our ’Young Voices’ attended Sheffield Arena to celebrate 25 years of ‘Young Voices!’

Easter Tree Service

An Easter service was held around the tree which was decorated with Easter and spring decorations.  The pupils and staff sang a variety of Easter songs including our favourite ‘Spring Chicken.’

Christmas Tree Service

Christmas was celebrated by joining together for ‘Carols around the Tree.’ It was a bright and clear winter’s day and a wonderful event for everyone. Classes in school created a range of Christmas decorations including salt dough decorations, bottle bottom snowmen, snowmen pegs, snow globes and winter flowers.

Remembrance Service

On the 11th November, we held a Remembrance service in our school garden area. During the service, our head boy and girl read the poem ‘Flanders Fields,’ Faye in 5W played the ‘Last Post’ and the children and staff sang our ‘We will remember song.’ The two minutes silence was observed at 11am.

We have many instrument lessons taking place in school including: brass, woodwind, guitar, ukulele, percussion and violin.

Things we do

The choir have sung at St Mary’s church at Harvest, Christmas and for Education Sunday.

We have taken part in the Young Voices concert at Sheffield arena.

Key Stage 1 and 2 visit St Mary’s Church to celebrate both Harvest and Christmas, listening to speakers and singing our favourite songs and carols.

We have received the Sing Up Gold Award for the very high standard of singing across school.

Peripatetic music teachers visit the school each week to give individual and group instrumental lessons. Currently 148 of our Key Stage 2 children take part in instrument lessons.

Both singers and instrumental players have the opportunity to take part in the Horbury Pyramid Music Day, where children from the schools sing play and then perform for friends and family.

We also hold a yearly Musical Evening where the children can perform again showcasing their talents.
