Safer Internet Day

13/02/2022

The children at HPA took part in Safer Internet Day.
In Nursery, the children listened to the the story ‘The Adventures of Smartie the Penguin.’  They also looked at internet symbols, their meanings and what they can do with them.
In Year 2, the children read the Digi-duck story and they gave him advice and spotted bad choices. The children were very knowledgeable about passwords, talking to grown ups and getting permission for purchases/game downloads. The children then answered some key questions linked to passwords, playing games and who to talk to about any worries. They put their answers on post it notes next to the questions and they were shared at the end of the session. 🙂
In Year 3, the children looked at different online scenarios and messages and voted together on whether they thought they were respectful and kind messages or not. They then talked about respect online and how they could change the messages to make them respectful.
In Year 5, the children talked about games and apps they use at home. The children looked at different online messages and voted on whether they were respectful or not. The children designed and recorded their own Gaming Guide to support children when on-line. The Gaming Guides provided practical advice for how to be respectful whilst using the internet.

The Accord Multi Academy Trust is an educational charity established in September 2016 that is currently made up of four academies who were the founding members of the Trust. In September 2016 Horbury Academy and Ossett Academy & Sixth Form College came together, moving away from their stand-alone Trust status and were joined in December 2016 by Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy.

The overarching vision for the Trust is to work in one ‘Accord – celebrating the differences of each academy through strong collaboration in order to inspire all members of our learning community to be the best that they can be.
