Welcome to Horbury Primary Academy

Welcome to Horbury Primary Academy

On behalf of staff, pupils and governors, we take great pride in welcoming you to Horbury Primary Academy virtually, through this web page, designed to give you a glimpse as to what we’re all about!

At Horbury Primary Academy, we firmly believe that the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum is key to developing the child as a whole. We want our children to leave our school as confident individuals, capable of achieving great things. We have a diverse curriculum, which is interwoven with the key learning attributes embodied within our PRIDE words; perseverance, risk-taking, independence, determination and enthusiasm.

Reading is at the heart of everything we do. At Horbury Primary Academy, we want to cultivate a love of reading to last a lifetime. If children learn to read effectively at our school, they will read to learn for the rest of their lives. We believe that even the very best of curriculums always needs a key to unlock it and that key is READING.

We have created a curriculum which engages and motivates children to want to learn, to solve problems, and to think critically and creatively. We endeavour to provide themed approaches to learning, encourage frequent educational visits and visitors into school in order to bring subjects and learning to life.

Our ultimate aim is for every child to reach their potential and to create a lifelong love of learning. ‘The Horbury Way’ gives children not only new skills, knowledge and understanding, but also key learning attributes that will enable them to succeed as they begin their path in life. We have a culture of learning in which we have high expectations of all, enabling children to achieve through challenge and support.

If you have any questions about our academy or if you’d like to arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We’ll look forward to meeting you!

Mr J Tucker

Learning & Curriculum

The primary purpose of our curriculum is to guarantee a successful learning experience for every child and as such is designed to:

  • Develop strong characters in order to be resilient and to cope with adversity
  • Develop creative individuals who collaborate and cooperate in order to solve problems and who see failure as an opportunity to learn
  • Develop pupils who think critically and care about their learning so that they always do their best
  • Develop pupils who care about their school, their community and the wider world; encouraging them to feel part of and contribute positively to fundamental British values
  • Ensure all children have high aspirations
  • Develop a thirst for learning for all pupils
  • Enable pupils to communicate, read, write and apply mathematics sufficiently well in order to prepare them to be successful in the next phase of their education

The curriculum at Horbury Primary Academy has been completely redesigned to offer the best possible opportunities for learning for our children.  Our curriculum encompasses the National Curriculum objectives and these objectives are built upon year upon year, which provides clear sequencing and progress during the Horbury Primary Academy journey.

The Accord Multi Academy Trust is an educational charity established in September 2016 that is currently made up of four academies who were the founding members of the Trust. In September 2016 Horbury Academy and Ossett Academy & Sixth Form College came together, moving away from their stand-alone Trust status and were joined in December 2016 by Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy.

The overarching vision for the Trust is to work in one ‘Accord – celebrating the differences of each academy through strong collaboration in order to inspire all members of our learning community to be the best that they can be.
