Admissions Arrangements

Children will be admitted into mainstream school (Reception) from the September after their fourth birthday. Admissions into mainstream school are controlled by Wakefield Local Authority in line with the Agreed Admissions Policy. Full details and procedures for making an application can be found on the Wakefield Local Authority Website.

At Horbury Primary Academy, we have 60 places in each year group. You will need to apply via the Local Authority Admissions Team for a place at our school. This can be completed online or you can request a paper application form by contacting the Wakefield Admissions Team on 01924 306052.

If more children request a place than there are places available, the Local Authority will follow the criteria set out in their policy (see below).

Children can be admitted to Nursery from the term after their third birthday. For example, if your child turns 3 years old:

• Between the 1^st September and the 31^st December, they will start in January
• Between the 1^st January and the 31^st March, they will start after Easter
• Between the 1^st April and the 31^st August, they will start in September

Applications should be made using our online form prior to your child’s birthday. We encourage parents and carers to apply as early as possible.

In our Nursery, we offer 15-hour (part-time) and 30-hour (full-time) places. You can check your eligibility for a 30-hour place by visiting the Childcare Choices website.

Please note that a place in our Nursery setting does not guarantee a full-time place in our Reception classes. You will still need to apply to Wakefield Local Authority for this.
